The post of the Rector of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, Oyo State. Nigeria will become vacant very soon. The Governing Council of Federal School of Surveying. Oyo wishes to commence the process for the appointment of a new Rector for the School. Consequently, applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified Candidates for the position. Interested applicants are requested to note the following information:
The Federal School of Surveying, Oyo is a Tertiary Institution set up primarily to produce Professionals, Technologists and Technicians in the field of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics and other related Programmes for the national economy.
The School, being a pioneer in Surveying Education and Centre of Excellence, its aim is to strive at producing graduates who shall be;
(a) (i) Sound and proficient in the practice of the Profession;
(ii) Technically confident such that they can solve any problem confronting them in practice;
(iii) Of high integrity and maintain high ethical standards.
(i) To encourage its Staff to contribute to learned journals publications and also create an atmosphere conducive 10 publication of textbooks and reading materials, scientific enquiry and inventions for the greater glory of the School in particular and tot of the nation in general.
The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the School. He has the power to exercise general authority over both the Staff and Students and he is also responsible for discipline in the School, subject to the general control of the Governing Council. In addition to proven Management and leadership experience, the successful Candidate must have a demonstrated passion for academic endeavor and be credible to the academic Community.
Qualifications and Experience
The Candidate for the post is expected to possess the following qualifications and qualities:
(i) Must possess a B.Sc. Degree in Surveying and Geo-informatics or its equivalent from a recognized Institution though B.Sc. Surveying and Geo-informatics is an advantage. Possession of higher degrees such as M.Sc/Ph.d in Surveying and Geoinformatics will be an added advantage.
(ii) Must possess NYSC Discharge Certificate or Certificate of exemption.
(iii) Must be registered with Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON).
(iv) Must have had a minimum of fifteen (15) years post-qualification cognate experience in teaching and research in an Institution of higher learning. He/she must not be below die rank of Chief Lecturer in a Polytechnic or Reader in a University or an equivalent Institution.
(v) Must not be more” than 60 years of age as at the time of assumption of Office.
(vi) Must demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative and creativity in policy formulation, good human relations and positive Managerial attributes.
(vii) Must provide evidence of Scholarly publications in reputable journals as well as presentation of invited papers at Educational, Conferences, Seminars and/or Workshops.
(viii) Must provide evidence of Membership of reputable Professional body/bodies in Nigeria.
(ix) Must be able to attract research grants and development facilities to the School.
(x) Must be a person with initiative and vision for sustaining the accelerated pace of development of the School even under financial and other challenging constraints.
(xi) Must be a fair-minded and dynamic individual with an impeccable reputation.
(xii) Must be a person who is not likely to pursue racial, ethical, political, religious or other sectional interest.
(xiii) Must be ready to encourage the on-going Federal Government change programme in the Polytechnic sector.
(xiv) Must demonstrate interpersonal and team building skills and possess the ability to strengthen the bridges between Staff, Students, other members of the School and the Community.
(xv) Must have demonstrable ability to establish and maintain partnerships with Local and International Governmental and Non-Governmental Agencies.
(xvi) Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health.
(xvii) Must be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT/CONDITION OFSERVICE
The appointment is for a term of four (4) years in the first instance and renewable subject to satisfactory performance, for another term of four (4) years and no more. The salary is consolidated and the appointee shall enjoy other benefits of Office as may be approved from time to time by the Federal Government.

(xviii) Names and addresses of three (3) Referees (Employer, Educational and Personal) who are to forward Confidential reports directly to the Registrar, Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, Oyo State. Such Referees should be able to attest to the Candidates’ claims to high academic and Managerial capabilities as well as their notable uprightness.
