Legacy University, Okija, Anambra State is one of the eight private universities recently approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria, with the view of increasing access to university education to all qualified individuals in the country, promote quality tertiary education and engage in relevant research for national development Located in serene environment in Okija, Anambra State, the new university seeks to build a legacy of excellence in teaming and research, it plans to commence academic activities within the first quarter of 2017, offering courses in Management, Arts, Social Sciences, Natural and Physical Sciences. The institution has capacity for fast growth and aspires to be a world- class University through curriculum innovation; quality teaching and research, infrastructural development and attracting and retaining experienced academic and administrative personnel.

Position: Vice Chancellor

Responsibilities and Requirements

The Vice-Chancellor normally is me Chief Executive and Academic Head of the University, and is also the Chairman of Senate, Congregation and member of the Governing Council. The Vice-Chancellor shall exercise general supervision over the activities of the University and have general responsibilities to the Council for the maintenance of Law, Statutes and Regulations in the University by ensuring that Law, Statues and Regulations of the University are enforced and observed, among others.

Applicants for the position of the Vice Chancellor, Legacy University. Okija, must be a distinguished scholar with outstanding academic and administrative records and must be a proven manager of human and material resources. Specifically, the candidate:

Must be a full Professor of not less than ten (10) years standing with the ability to provide dynamic academic and administrative leadership for the University and must have held sufficient academic and administrative positions in a similar institution;

Should be capable of working towards realizing the vision and mission of the University;

Should be able to attract research grants and complementary funds from local and international agencies, for the development of the University;

Should possess outstanding personal integrity in the management of funds and be able to deploy financial resources as appropriate in the context of strategic plans of the University;

Must demonstrate inter- personal and team building skills and possess the ability to harness all component units and resources in building an enviable university system;

Should be an individual who, judging from his/ her track records is likely to earn the respect as well as loyalty of the members of staff, students and University community;

Should be in a position to ensure the enforcement of the University Law and Regulations;

Should have excellent and spoken communication skills;

Should be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient;

Must be of excellent physical and mental health.

TENURE:

The Vice Chancellor shall hold the office for a single term as applicable in similar institutions in the country.

REMUNERATION:

The remuneration and conditions of service for the post of Vice Chancellor are as applicable in similar institutions in the country.

Position: Registrar

The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University, responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University, the Registrar by virtue of the office is the Secretary to the Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation.

Requirements:

The candidate for the post of Registrar must possess an honors degree from a recognized University, with at least fifteen (15) years relevant post qualification experience in a similar institution. Possession of higher degrees, professional qualifications and membership of professional bodies will be an added advantage. The candidate in addition should:

Currently not below the rank of Deputy Registrar;

Show demonstrable evidence of consummate management and leadership skills; passion and drive in previous positions. In addition, must possess excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills;

Exhibit the ability to be a team leader, has good mentorship skills and plans;

Enjoy good physical and mental health;

Possess outstanding personal integrity, demonstrate transparency in private and public life, be able to command the respect and loyalty of staff, students and members of the University community;

Be computer literate and have a good working understanding of communication by Internet;

Must have a good working understanding of current administrative principles, processes and practices.

Terms and Conditions of Service Applicable

The Registrar should hold office for a single term as applicable to similar institutions in Nigeria and the conditions of service will be as applicable to similar institutions in Nigeria. This wilt however be specified in the letter of appointment.

Method of Application:

Each application, including the candidate’s detailed curriculum vitae duly signed should be made in twenty (20) copies and sent through courier to the Acting Registrar. Each application should include the names and addresses of three (3) referees. Each applicant should request his/her referees to forward, direct to the Acting Registrar, a confidential report on the candidate’s character, academic and managerial abilities in a property sealed envelope marked “Post of Registrar: Referee’s Report”; with name of candidate at the top left hand corner of the envelope. Both application and the referee’s reports must reach the undersigned not later than 8th February, 2017.

Position: Bursar

The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University. He shall be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the management of the University’s finances.

Requirement:

The candidate must possess BSc in Accounting with at least Second Class (Lower Division) plus MBA or MSc in relevant disciple from recognized University and must be a full member of a recognized professional accounting body such as ICAN, ACA, ACCA, ACMA and CPA plus a minimum of twelve (12) years cognate experience and computer literacy is compulsory.

Remuneration:

The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable in similar institutions and as may be determined by the University’s Governing Council.

 

Position: Librarian

The University Librarian is the Head of the University Library and is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the University Library and coordination of Library services in me University.

Requirement:

Good honors degree plus MLS / MLIS and Ph.D in Library Science or Library and Information Science and must have at least 12 years cognate experience in an academic or research library. He/she must be computer literate and must have evidence of substantial contribution to knowledge through scholarly publications in verifiable journals.

Position: Professor:

Qualifications:

The candidate, who must have been an Associate Professor for at least three (3) years, must have a Ph.D degree and evidence of highly scholarly productivity. The candidate must have had up to twenty (20) publications, five (5) of which

should be offshore, fifteen (15) of which must be journal articles and must have supervised a minimum of one Ph.D student or three master’s students. The candidate must have at least two (2) positive external assessment reports. 

Position: Associate Professor:

Qualifications:

The candidate who must have been a Senior Lecturer for at least three (3) years must have a Ph.D degree in relevant field with evidence of outstanding and continuing achievement/ teaching experience in a University; fifteen(15) publications in reputable journals, of which three (3) must be offshore journals. Must possess ability to supervise a minimum of one master’s degree or Ph.D student. The candidate must have at least two (2) positive external assessments.

Position: Senior Lecturer

Qualifications:

The candidate must have a Ph.D degree or its equivalent in relevant field from an accredited tertiary institution plus six (6) years post qualification cognate experience The candidate must also have a minimum of seven (7) publications, five (5) of which must be in reputable national and offshore journals with evidence of continuous research and publication. Must possess ability to supervise postgraduate students at the master’s level

Position: Lecturer 1:

The candidate must have a PhD degree in relevant discipline from a recognized University plus at least three (3) years of relevant cognate experience in an accredited tertiary institution. In addition, the candidate must have at least two (2) good publications in reputable national and offshore journals. Must possess ability to initiate and supervise research programme at the undergraduate level.

Position: Lecturer 11

Qualifications:

The candidate must have at least a Ph.D or Master’s degree with at least one publication in a reputable journal. An Assistant Lecturer with a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience may apply.

Position: Assistant Lecturer

Qualifications:

The candidate must have a Master’s degree with dissertation in relevant field. (No work experience needed)
