Registrar at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike is one of the three Federal Universities of Agriculture in Nigeria established to accelerate the drive towards national food security and rural development, in addition to providing functional education in a range of science-based disciplines in order to make their graduates self-reliant, job and wealth creators. The Institution is located in the well-known Agricultural Training and Research City of Umudike, about ten 10 kilometers from Umuahia. The University is rapidly evolving as a Centre of Excellence where training, research and community service for the achievement of National development goals and global relevance are emphasized in an atmosphere that promotes social cohesion and responsible citizenship.

Position: Registrar

The post of the Registrar of the University will soon be vacant. Applications to fill the vacancy are hereby invited from suitably qualified persons.

The Candidate:

Candidates for the Post must have a good First Degree, preferably in the Humanities Social Sciences and related disciplines. Possession of higher degree(s) will be an advantage. Such candidates must have a minimum of twenty (20) years post qualification cognate experience most of which must be in a University or other Tertiary Institution and must not be below the rank of a Deputy Registrar. Candidates must not only be ICT compliant but must also demonstrate capacity to involve and integrate ICT skills in normal University Administrative and Management functions. Applicants would be expected to show dynamism and flexibility in organizing and managing the human resources component of the administrative arm of the Institution in order to provide the needed strategic support for the achievement of the University’s mandate. Candidates for the post must be such that they would not exceed the gazette retirement age before the end of the five-year tenure.


The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administrative work of the university, except as regards matters for which the Bursar is responsible, importantly, the Registrar is also the Secretary to Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation.

Conditions of Service

These are the same as in the Federal Public Service and as applicable to Nigerian  Federal Universities.
