The Governing Council of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi has approved that advertisement be made for the position of Vice Chancellor of the University.
In that respect, applications are hereby invited from interested and qualified candidates for the position.
The Federal University Birnin Kebbi is one of the three (3) Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in February, 2013. It commenced Academic Programmes in November, 2014 with two (2) Faculties i.e. the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, Presently, the University has two additional Faculties: the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and the College of Health Sciences. As a growing institution, the University is committed to fostering academic, social and infrastructural developments that will strategically position it among committee of institutions of learning both locally and internationally. The fast growth experienced by the institution is due to its culture of attracting and retaining innovative and outstanding individuals as staff.
Position: Vice Chancellor
The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Administrative and Academic Head of the University. He/She is the Chairman of the Senate, the Congregation, the Tenders Board and the Senior Staff Appointment and Promotion Committee (SSAPC). He is a member of the Governing Council and the Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC).
The Vice Chancellor shall among other duties:
(a) Promote research, teaching, high standard of academic excellence and community service.
(b) Be responsible to the Council for the maintenance of peace, law and order in the University;
(c) Be competent at all times to advise the Council on all matters affecting the policy, finance and administration of the University;
(d) Be responsible for staff and students discipline and welfare in the University.
(3) REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
Applicants for the position of Vice Chancellor, Federal University Birnin Kebbi must be distinguished scholars with impeccable academic and administrative records.
(i) The person must be a Professor with minimum of ten (10) years standing and should be able to provide sound academic and administrative leadership for the University. The candidate is expected to have held academic and administrative positions to prepare him/her for the position of the Vice Chancellor.
(ii) Should be visionary and have a good understanding of the vision and mission of the University.
(iii) Be able to attract research grants and complimentary funds from local and international agencies for the University.
(iv) Possess integrity in the management of University funds and resources.
(v) Possess the ability to build bridges between staff, students, members of the University community and other stake holders.
(vi) Be an individual who, judging from his/her track records, will command the respect and loyalty of members of the University Community.
(vii) Be able to demonstrate the ability to attract, motivate and retain highly skilled and talented staff.
(viii) Have excellent written and spoken communication skills in English Language.
(ix) Should be in position to ensure discipline and the enforcement of the University’s laws and regulations.
(x) Be proficient in Information and Communication Technology.
(xi) Must be of good physical and mental health.
(xii) Must not be more than 65 years of age at the date of this advert.
The Vice Chancellor shall hold the office for a single non-renewable term of five (5) years.
The remuneration and condition of service for the post of Vice Chancellor are as obtainable in all Nigerian Federal Universities and as determined by the Federal Government and or the Council.

Interested candidates are required to submit thirty (30) copies of their application and Curriculum Vitae in sealed envelopes each addressed to the Registrar, Federal University Birnin Kebbi not later than 10th April, 2017 and the post applied for must be clearly written at
the top right hand corner of the envelope. In addition, candidate’s vision Statement for the University not more than 1000 words should be enclosed in the application. The application must include photocopies of academic and professional qualifications, birth certificate or declaration of age and verified evidence of work experience. (xix) Names and addresses of three referees one of whom must be from the last or current place of employment and shall not be below the rank of Professor or a Principal Officer of a University.
All referees should be requested to send their independent reports to the Registrar with details of the applicant and the post applied for, not later than the closing date of this advertisement.
