VACANCY 

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the under listed positions in Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE POLYTECHNIC

The Polytechnic operates a multi campus system thus:

  • Main Campus located at the former UPE Teachers College along Zaria – Kaduna express road.
  • Annex Campus located at the former College of Advanced Studies, Gaskiya Road, Zaria.
  • Samaru Kataf Campus located at the former Kaduna State College of Agriculture, Samaru Kataf.

There are presently seven (7) schools and each school is headed by a Director.

OFFICE OF THE RECTOR

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OFFICE OF THE RECTOR:

The Rector is the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the Polytechnic as provided for in Kaduna State Edict No. 3 of 1989 (subsequently amended in 2003).

In addition to the above, the Rector among other things should give academic leadership and play an active part in enhancing academic excellence and extending the services of the polytechnic to government and commercial sectors of the economy. Therefore, the Candidate for the post must have a very high sense of dedication to duty, drive, resourcefulness and integrity.

QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate for the post is expected to possess the following academic, administrative, professional qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant should demonstrate academic leadership with a minimum of a Master’s Degree in areas relevant to any of the programmes offered by the Polytechnic from a recognized institution of higher learning, plus a minimum of fifteen (15) years of postgraduate teaching, research, industrial and administrative experience preferably, five (5) years should be in the Polytechnic sector. An applicant with higher academic qualification will have an added advantage.
  • Must be a Chief Lecturer from any of the programmes run by the polytechnic with not less than five (5) years’ experience on that cadre.
  • Must provide evidence of membership of a recognized professional institution or registration with a regulatory body in Nigeria and evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals, as well as presentation of papers at educational conferences, seminars and/or workshops.
  • Candidate must not be more than 55 years at the time of assumption of duty.
  • Must be a person with initiative and vision for sustaining the accelerated pace of development of Technical & Vocational Education (TVE) in Nigeria.
  • Must be a fair-minded and dynamic individual with an impeccable reputation.
  • Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health (with evidence from Government Hospital); and
  • Must be proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
  • Candidates with less than the minimum qualification and experience need not apply.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The Appointment is for an initial period of Four (4) years and may be renewed for a second and final term of Four (4) years.

The Salary of the Rector is CONTISS 15.

Other fringe benefits are:

OFFICE OF THE POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN

The Polytechnic librarian shall be responsible to the Rector for the provision of library services in the Polytechnic.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for Library services of the Polytechnic.
  • Preparation of Library Budget
  • In attendance at Governing Council meeting.
  • Member Junior Staff Appointments, Promotions and Disciplinary Committee.
  • Member, Management Committee.
  • Member, Academic Board.
  • Desk officer on Tetfund Library intervention.

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

The applicant should be a holder of MLS in Library Science with eighteen (18) years’ cognate experience or PhD with fifteen (15) years’ cognate experience.

Must provide evidence of membership with the library registration council.

Must provide evidence of journal publications, conference/seminar papers and books proceeding.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

  • The appointment is for an initial period of four (4) years renewable for a second and final term of four (4) years.
  • The salary of the Polytechnic librarian is CONTISS 15.
  • An official car
  • Sabbatical within Nigeria on completion of tenure provided the officer is not retiring.

OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR PHYSICAL PLANNING

RESPONSIBILITIES

Director, Physical Planning shall be responsible for:

  • Overall control of works and services department
  • Formulating divisional strategies to achieve institutional goals.
  • Planning and controlling the technical activities of the works and services departments.
  • Advising the Rector on the acquisition, operation and maintenance of all Polytechnic assets.
  • Preparing the Division’s budget and exercising budgetary controls.
  • Keeping an inventory of all vehicles, maintenance, security and upkeep.
  • Desk officer on Tetfund intervention on infrastructural development and maintenance.
  • Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Rector.

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE

  • The candidate for the post is expected to be;
  • A holder of a good degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Building, Town Planning, Estate Surveying and Valuers etc.; with at least twenty (20) years relevant experience or a holder of a good Master’s degree in the relevant field plus at least eighteen (18) years or a holder of PhD with fifteen (15} years relevant experience.
  • Must be registered with appropriate professional body.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

  • The salary of the Director Physical Planning is CONTISS 15.

  • Sabbatical within Nigeria on completion of tenure provided the Officer is not retiring.

OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR, MEDICAL SERVICES

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR, MEDICAL SERVICES

  • Responsible to the Rector for the smooth running of the medical centre.
  • Taking overall charge of the medical centre.
  • Coordinating the work and activities of subordinate staff of the medical centre.
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Rector.

QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • The applicant should be a holder of MBBS or equivalent qualification with eighteen (18) years’ cognate experience or holder of post graduate qualification in medicine with at least fifteen (15) years’ cognate experience.
  • Must provide evidence of membership with the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The salary of the Director of Medical services is CONMESS 15.

Shall be entitled to an official car.
