Vacancies at Abia State University

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following vacant positions in Abia State University.

POSITION: BURSAR

(a)Person & Responsibility

The Bursar is a principal Officer and the Chief Financial Officer of the University, responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the University.

(b)Qualifications

The Candidate must possess:

(a)A Degree/HND in Accountancy or related disciplines, with at least Second Class division or Upper Credit as appropriate and

(b) A professionally recognized Accountancy qualification of any of ACA, ACCA, CNA ACMA, CPA, FCA, from any of the following bodies:

(i)  Institute of Chartered Accounts of England & Wales.

(ii)  Institute of Chartered Certified Accountants of London.

(iii)  Chartered Institute of Cost & Management Accountants.

(iv)  Association of National Accountants of Nigeria.

(v)  American Institute of Certified Public Accountants

( c) The candidate should be ICT literate and not more than Fifty-five (55) years of age.

(d)  A higher degree in any of the relevant disciplines and a Fellowship of any of the recognized professional Accounting bodies would be an advantage.

( c)  Experience

The candidate must have at least ten (10) years cognate experience beginning from year of graduation from the University.

( d) Salary/Condition of service:

The Salary and conditions of service shall be obtainable in the Nigeria University system.

The appointment would be for one term of five (5) years only.

POSITION:DIRECTOR OF WORKS & SERVICES

(a) Person & Responsibility

The Director of Works & Services is the head of the works & Services Department of the University, responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the development and maintenance of the infrastructure, equipment and sundry other utilities of the University.

(b) Qualifications

The candidate must possess

(a)A Degree/HND in Engineering (Civil Electrical, or Mechanical) and be a registered member of the following professional bodies:

(i)Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN)

(ii)The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)

(b) A higher Degree in Engineering and a fellowship of any of the above-listed professional bodies and would be an advantage.

(c )The candidate should be ICT literate and not more than fifty-five (55) years age.

( c) Experience

Candidate must have at least ten (10) years of post-qualification experience.

(d) Salary/Condition of Service:

The Salary and conditions of service shall be as obtainable in the Nigeria University system.

The appointment would be for one term of five (5) years only.

POSITION:DIRECTOR OF HEALTH SERVICES

(a)Person & Responsibility

The Director of Health Services is the head of Medical Services, responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the provision of Medical Services to the University community.

(b) Qualifications

The candidate must possess:

(a)The degree of MBBS/MB Bch

(b)He must also be a fully registered and current member of the Medical & Dental Council of Nigeria.

( c) The candidate should be ICT literate and not more than fifty-five (55) years of age.

A higher Degree/Qualification in any specialized area of Medicine will be an advantage.

( c) Experience

The candidate must have at least ten (10) years post registration experience.

(d) Salary/Condition of Service:

The Salary and conditions of service shall be as obtainable in Nigeria University system.

The appointment would be for one term of five (5) years only.

POSITION:  DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL PLANNING

(b)Person & Responsibility

The Director of Physical Planning is the head of the Physical Planning Unit of the University, responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the co-ordination and supervision of the Physical/Infrastructural development of the University by ensuring that all such development projects, conform strictly with the specifications of the Institution’s Master Plan.

Qualifications

The candidate must possess:

(i)A good Honours Degree in Architecture.

(ii)The candidate must also be a registered and current member of any of the relevant professional bodies:

(a)Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA)

(b)Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON)

(iii)The candidate should be ICT literate and not more than fifty-five (55) years of age.

(iv)Possession of a higher degree in the relevant field of Specialization and a fellowship of any of the specialized bodies will be an added advantage.

( c)Experience

The candidate must have at least ten (10) years post-qualification experience.

(d)Salary/Condition of Service:

The Salary and conditions of service shall be as obtainable in the Nigerian University system.

The appointment would be for one term of five (5) years only

POSITION: CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER

Person & Responsibility

The Chief Security Officer of the University is responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the security of lives and property in the institution, ensures the effective co-ordination of security in and around the University and liaises with external security agencies in discharge of the duties of the office.

( e)Qualifications

(I) Academic Qualification

A prospective candidate must possess a minimum of a first Degree or its equivalent;

(ii)Professional Qualification

An interested candidate must be a senior serving or retired service personnel of the rank of Major or its equivalent in the Armed Forces, the Police, and Civil Defense Corps or Department of Security Services (DSS).

( c)Salary/Condition of Service:

The Salary and conditions of service shall be as obtainable in the Nigerian University system.

The appointment would be for one term of five (5) years only.

MODE OF SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

The curriculum Vitae and photocopies of claimed credentials must be attached to each application and forwarded in twenty-five (25) copies, to the Registrar, Abia State University, P.M.B. 2000, Uturu, Abia State not later than 2nd November 2017 from the date of this publication.
