CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER AND CHIEF RISK OFFICER NEEDED AT WAICA REINSURANCE CORPORATION PLC

WAICA REINSURANCE CORPORATION PLC

The organization is seeking to employ a person who will work primarily at the NAIROBI, KENYA Office as the CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER of WAICA REINSURANCE COMPANY – KENYA, (A subsidiary company of WAICA Reinsuarnce Corporation Pic). The Officer will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the organization.

The Chief Finance Officer will provide overall strategic and operational leadership of all financial functions of the organization

Key Responsibilities will include amongst others:

Plan, organise and manage all financial and accounting functions of the:

Corporation including timely production of reports.

Take responsibility for the implementation of the company’s laid down financial policy and procedure.

Put in place a system and measure of financial control in consultation with the CEO and the Board.

Prepare annual financial statements ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Review and approve payment vouchers and journal entries and through monthly reconciliations, ensure accuracy of all accounts, ledgers and schedules as well as monitoring of revenues and expenditures.

Oversee all treasury activities including banking, investment and liquidity management.

Develop and maintain sound internal controls and effective accounting systems and policies over expenses, revenue and fixed assets.

Ensure compliance with tax, the Insurance Act, the Companies Code and other regulatory requirements, establishing internal policies and procedures that assure safe and sound business operations, record keeping and proper disclosure of required financial, operational and management information.

Review the payroll. Assure compliance with tax, pensions and other labour related laws.

Oversee budgets, implementation of budgets, preparation of variance analysis and the institution of strong budgetary control system for cost control, so as to monitor progress and present financial metrics both internally and externally.

Collaborate with internal and external auditors for the conduct of internal and statutory audits.

Any other tasks as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer

QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

(a)     Bachelor degree in Accounting

(b)     Professional Qualification in Accounting

(c)     At least 10 years post qualification related experience with not less than 5 years at the Senior management level.

(d)     Good understanding of insurance and Reinsurance accounting and reporting concepts under IFRS.

(e)     Proficient in word- processing and spreadsheet software.

(f)     Good organizational skills

(g)     Strong problem solving and analytical skills

(h)     Ability to expertly utilize technology to enhance efficiencies

(i)     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse audiences
(j)   Work experience in a high energy/ fast paced team focussed environment.

CHIEF RISK OFFICER

Position: Chief Risk Officer

Responsibilities of Chief Risk Officer

The Chief Risk Officer shall have primarily responsibility for the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) in the company

He /She shall be responsible for coordinating and facilitating Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

He / She shall assist management and the board or audit committee in the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) process by Monitoring, Evaluating, Examining, Reporting and Recommending improvements

The Chief Risk Officer’s activity plan of engagement shall be based on the risk assessment, undertaken at least annually.

He / She shall identify and assess risks relevant to the risk assessment and future objectives shall reflects the result of the risk assessment

He / She shall evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of controls encompassing the company’s governance, operations, and information systems following the risk assessment

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

(a)     Bachelor of Science degree in any social science

(b)     A Professional Qualification in Insurance or Accounting will be an added advantage.

(c)     At least 5 years post qualification experience in ERM or Similar field

(d)     Good organizational skills

(e)     Strong problem solving and analytical skills

(f)     Ability to expertly utilize technology to enhance efficiencies

(g)     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse audiences
