The Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron (MAN, Oron) is the premier Maritime’ training institution statutorily established in Nigeria. The Academy has the following functions;

To admit and train the various, levels of personnel required for running and operating ships of the merchant navy.

To Train technical manpower for ports, marine engineering, workshops, piloting and navigation, marine insurance, Hydrography and other related services and.

To provide such other forms of instruction as the Academy may, from time to time decide to undertake.

The Academy requires the employment of Principal and other Management officers including the following (as listed below)

Teaching Staff Vacancies

Non-Teaching Staff Vacancies

Position: Registrar

Duties:

The Registrar shall be responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day administration of the Academy and shall be the Secretary of the Council, the Academic Board and other statutory committees.

Conditions of service:

The conditions of service of the Registrar shall include the following:

Consolidated salary.

Other fringe benefits as obtained in the Conditions of Service of the Academy.

 

Tenure of appointment shall be four (4) years from the date of appointment which may be renewed for another four (4) year term only.

Qualification & experience:

Candidates for the position of Registrar should possess a good honours degree from a recognised university, plus, at least, 1-7 years cognate experience; or a holder of a Master Degree from a recognized University, plus at least 15 years cognate experience, or a holder of Doctorate degree plus, at least 12 years cognate experience. In addition candidate should have attained the position not lower than Deputy Registrar for at least four (4) years in a recognised tertiary institution.

Membership of recognized professional bodies will be an added advantage.

The candidate:

The Registrar shall be a person of high integrity and or strong moral character with excellent interpersonal relations. The person must be able to instil confidence in others and command the loyalty and respect of people. He/she must be in good health and must not be more than 45 years on assumption of duty.

Position: Bursar

Duties

The Bursar shall be responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day financial management of the Academy, and shall advise the Rector on all financial matters.

Conditions of Service:

The conditions of service of the Bursar shall include the following:

Tenure of appointment shall be four (4)-years from the date of appointment which may be renewed for another four (4) year term only.

Qualification experience:

Candidates for the position of Bursar should possess a good honours degree in Accountancy/Finance from a recognized University plus at least seventeen (17) years cognate experience or Master Degree in Accountancy/Finance from a recognized University, plus at least fifteen (15) years cognate experience and a member of ICAN or ANAN. The candidate must have attained the position of Deputy Bursar for at least four (4) years in a tertiary institution. Candidate must possess demonstrable competence to provide administrative leadership.

The candidate:

The Bursar shall be a person of high integrity and of strong moral character with excellent interpersonal relations.

The person must be computer literate and be able to instil confidence in others and command the loyalty and respect of people.

He/she must be in good health and not more than 45 years of age on assumption of duty.

Position: Librarian

Duties

The College Librarian who is one of the Principal Officers in the Academy is the Chief Library Manager of the Academy. He is responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day administration of the academy’s Library which is made up of the main Library and the Resource Centre.

The conditions of service of the College Librarian shall include the following:

Tenure of appointment shall be four (4) years from the date of appointment which may be renewed for another four (4) year term only.

Qualification & experience:

The College Librarian is an academic position.

Candidates for the position of a College Librarian must possess Ph.D degree in Library Science from a recognized University with at least twelve (12) years cognate experience in administrative and research work in a University or Polytechnic. Or

Master Degree in Library Science from a recognized University with at least fifteen (15) years cognate experience in applied research. Candidate should possess evidence of scholarly publications in local, national and international reputable academic journals, plus evidence of membership of Library Professional bodies and registration with the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN).

Candidate must possess demonstrable competence to provide academic and administrative leadership.

In addition candidate must have spent four (4) years as a Chief Librarian in a tertiary institution.

The candidate:

The College Librarian shall be a person of high integrity and of strong moral character with excellent interpersonal relations.

The candidate must be computer literate, be able to instil confidence on others and command the loyalty and respect of peopleÂ

The candidate must be in good health and not more than 45 year of age on assumption of duty.

Position: Director, Works and Services Duties:

The Director Works and Services shall be responsible to the Rector for the physical development, maintenance and care of the Academy’s estate, rehabilitation of existing facilities and development of new ones, including roads, water, electricity vehicles, equipment and furniture in administrative, academic and residential areas ensuring cost effectiveness.

Preparing and maintaining the Academy’s fixed assets register and making periodic reports to the Rector on physical state of the Academy.

Responsible for co-ordination and control of the Works and Services Department activities in the Academy.

Conditions of service:

The conditions of service of the Director, Works and Services shall include the following:

Tenure of appointment shall be to the retirement age of 60 years, or 35 years of service, whichever comes first.

Qualification and experience:

Candidates for the position of Director, Works & Services should possess a good honours degree in Engineering, plus membership with the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Registration with COREN. Possession of Master Degree in Engineering shall be an added advantage.

In addition, Candidate must have spent four (4) years as Deputy Director, Works and Services in tertiary institutions.

The candidate:

The Director, Works and Services shall be a person of high integrity and of strong moral character with excellent interpersonal relations.

He/she must be in good health and not more than 45 years of age on assumption of duty.

Position: Senior Legal Officer

Qualification:

Candidates for the post of Senior Legal Officer must possess a minimum of Bachelor of law degree and certificate of call to the Nigerian Bar with not less than 10 years cognate experience.

Possession of Master of Law degree shall be added advantage.

Must possess NYSC exemption/exclusion or discharge certificate.

Position: Electrician/Plant Operators

Qualification:

Applicant for the post of Electrician and plant operators must have a minimum of First School Leaving Certificate, Trade Test I and Senior School Certificate or its equivalent.
