Vacancies: Speech and Language Therapist, Class Teacher

The RA International School (RAIS) is located in Nigeria LNG Residential Area Bonny Island, which houses both the school staff and families working for NLNG.

The school runs a broad-based curriculum, following the English Curriculum for Mathematics, Literacy and International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for other subjects with local (Nigerian) content included. The school currently has over 730 students on roll, from 3-11 years, from mostly Nigerian backgrounds.

We are seeking to recruit experienced, exceptional and internationally-minded individuals with ability to manage multi-cultural teams, using an inclusive multi-disciplinary approach.


Position: Speech and Language Therapist

Job Objectives

(i)         To identify children with Speech, Language and Communication delays / disorders and to provide support for these needs, thus ensuring that all children in RA1S School reach their full potentials.

(ii)        To offer training to service users including: parents; teachers; LSAs.

Duties and Responsibilities

(i)         Identify communication delays/disorders through formal and/or informal assessment to enable appropriate intervention.

(ii)        Reliably interpret the results from assessment findings.

(iii)       Devise, deliver and review relevant and appropriate therapeutic programmes.

(iv)      Deliver therapy in a number of settings: individual, group and classroom.

(v)       Write and maintain confidential client case notes; reports and therapy summaries to the recognised standards of the SaLTs regulating body i.e. Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

(vi)      Manage the case load effectively to allow optimum therapeutic time for each child i.e. prioritizing needs, developing care aims, managing a waiting list, discharging when appropriate, thus ensuring sufficient progress for all children.

(vii)     Attend relevant IEP meetings and other related meetings, and actively contribute to the partnership work that arises to ensure best outcome for pupils.

(viii)    Liaise with and train parents, teachers and other relevant adults in the knowledge and skills required to promote and improve the communication of pupils on the case load.

(ix)      Actively maintain and develop up-to-date knowledge and skills in the field of Speech and Language Therapy to meet Continuing Professional Development requirements.

(x)       Support parents in developing awareness of additional needs within the Residential Area.

Job Requirements/Person Specifications


(i)         A University Degree in any discipline at a minimum of 2nd Class Lower.

(ii)        Recognized degree (Bachelors or Masters) in Speech and Language Therapy with eligibility to join regulating body, for example. The Royal College of speech and Language Therapist

(iii)    Willingness and motivation to maintain a high level of Continuing Professional Development and, develop specialist skills.


(i)         Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Speech & Language Therapist working with children (ages 3-12), ideally in a school setting.

(ii)        Experience in carrying out both formal and informal assessments, and using the outcomes to inform therapy and in developing care plans.

(iii)       Should be a person with high integrity and excellent character.

(iv)      Not more than 45 years old by May 31st, 2018.

Position: Class Teacher

Job Objectives

To plan and deliver teaching and learning using the International Primary Curriculum and English Curriculum for Maths and English and create a conducive learning environment within the classroom.

Duties and Responsibilities

(i)         Manage a class.

(ii)        Develop and teach balanced learning in all subjects as specified in the curricula involving factual background material, materials on current events and other appropriate activities.

(iii)       Teach any other assigned subjects to encourage pupils to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships, and make value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry.

(iv)      Establish and maintain standards of pupils’ behaviour needed to provide an orderly, and productive (learning focused) environment.

(v)       Keep and update appropriate class records.

(vi)      Establish good relationship and communicate with parents and school coordinators on pupils’ progress, providing regular feedback on the development of the children.

(vii)     Assess children’s learning, record and report to parents. Use assessment as a means of improving learning.

(viii)    Assist with organising extra-curricular activities and in developing the school’s curriculum and other programs to enhance learning.

(ix)      Identify pupils’ needs, and cooperate with other staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems, to ensure all children reach their potential.

Job Requirements/Person Specifications


B.Ed, or B.A/B.SC (PGDE / PGCE) in any discipline and minimum of 2nd class Honours lower division.


(i)         Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching in a primary school setting, ideally an international school.

(ii)        Experience in teaching the International Primary Curriculum/National Curriculum of England is an added advantage.

(iii)       Should be a person with high integrity and excellent character.

(iv)      Not more than 45 years old by May 31st, 2018.
